Top HF Runway Model Ranks

Here you find the official Not So Swedish High Fashion Runway Model Rankings. This is based on a point system, with each show being worth a certain number of points depending on the brand's overarching importance. What makes a brand important? Well, I'm not entirely sure, but seeing as Paris is the undisputed fashion Mecca, it seems only appropriate that what is considered "important" be determined by the fashion gods at Vogue Paris. Or, more specifically, the biannual Vogue Paris Collections.

Now, this is all well and good, but there are hundreds of shows each season, and I simply don't have time to follow the hundreds of models walking in each of these shows. So the field has to be narrowed immediately. So, for the Fall/Winter 2011 season, this is achieved with one condition: In order to be considered in the race, a model must have walked for at least three ready to wear Fall/Winter 2011 shows presented by official members of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture for that calendar year.* This ensures that the models included in the ranks are truly high fashion models, and consistently so. This is not to say that those excluded for not meeting the three-show requirement are necessarily NOT high fashion (for example, we don't need a ranking system to tell us that Mariacarla Boscono is the epitome of couture).

Each CSHC Member show walked earns a model 100 points. If they open OR close the show, 50 additional points are awarded. If the model opens AND closes the show, her open/close points for that show are doubled and added to the total. For example, Valerie Lemercier walked for Jean Paul Gaultier this season (100 points), and she opened (50 points) and closed (50 points) the show as well. Her total points from the JPG show alone would be 300 points (Valerie did NOT walk 3 CSHC shows however, so she was disqualified).

All other shows are broken down into three further categories: (a) former CSHC Members; (b) Blue Chips; and (c) Others. For walking these shows a model receives 80, 50, and 20 points, respectively. For opening or closing these shows, they receive 40, 25, and 10 points. As with the CSHC Member shows, if a model opens AND closes the show, her open/close points for that show are doubled.

There are also bonus points, because hard workers and world travellers should be compensated in some way (even if it is small). Thus:

  • +50 points for every 20 shows walked
  • +50 points for opening or closing in two cities
  • +100 points for opening or closing in four cities
  • +100 points for walking four cities
  • +1000 for most shows walked in total
  • +500 for greatest number of opens and/or closes

Based on these criteria, I have narrowed down the list of eligible models. Of the eleven CSHC Members, eight produced RTW collections for Fall/Winter 2011.** A total of 180 different models walked across these eight shows. However, of these, only 34 met the prerequisite of walking for three CSHC Members. With the points from CSHC Member shows awarded, the rankings stand as such:
